as the figure skating grand prix final is underway, the world’s men’s figure skating anime, “yuri!!! on ice” (tv asahi) is also garnering attention. manga artist, kubo mitsurou, who produced the original draft describes the sexiness to be a selling point, and on the other side, current competitor, mura takahito, praises the anime for how natural skaters’ movements appear to be. both kubo-san and mura-senshu share their thoughts on “yuri!!! on ice” from their own point of views.

mura: the love of figure skating just flows throughout the anime. kubo-san is someone who watches figure skating regularly so the movements of the skaters in the anime are not awkward at all.

kubo: that’s the work of director yamamoto sayo. also, we worked with miyamoto kenji-sensei, who has done choreography for plushenko. for areas we were unable to put together, kenji-sensei was able to help us out. for example, when i want to draw a level 4 step sequence, i’m unable to make one up in my head. that’s where kenji-sensei comes in and skates it for me.
