Anonymous asked: Haha no its okay, your really into it and thats really cool :) and thanks for the offer, actually i have a few questions about it already, like what exactly is the plot, does gin have any like powers or anything? And only from a few posts i saw i thought kagura and gin had some sort of relationship, but then ive seen you post him and tsukuyo? i think was her name, so then is like him and kagura a sibling relationship then, cause i can see that. The band of friends actually remind me of inuyasha,

Hmmmm.. well, that’s quite an interesting idea you’ve got there, so maybe that’s how it looks like to non-Gintama fans? Anyway, I’ll give a detailed answer to your questions so I hope you don’t mind the spoilers! (Nothing too major though, don’t worry!)

And only from a few posts i saw i thought kagura and gin had some sort of relationship, but then ive seen you post him and tsukuyo?

Ah, actually Gintoki and Kagura have a father and daughter relationship, and she lives with him in the Yorozuya, together with Sadaharu, their huge dog. Shinpachi’s relationship with Gintoki is more like that of an older brother, and Shinpachi and Kagura’s relationship are like that of siblings. About Tsukuyo, she’s actually one of the girls in Gintama who’s also shipped with Gin.

does gin have any like powers or anything?

Nope, he doesn’t. Gintoki is just a normal human being, just a very badass and strong one though. One thing that I absolutely love about Gintama are the fights, since they are more or less realistic, well-choreographed, short yet intense, and really awesome. They don’t gain sudden power-ups, they don’t have techniques and they don’t shout attack names since there’s none, they just cut, cut cut and slice down their opponents. XDD

What exactly is the plot?

What exactly do you mean by that? The “what-it-looks-like-at-first-glance“ plot or the "real, hidden plot”?

As for the former, it’s just about the life of Sakata Gintoki living his life as a Yorozuya as he deals with the idiots surrounding his life. There’s a bit of serious arcs and drama included. It’s episodic.

If you want the real plot though, that is another story.

…I’m gonna make this really detailed, so that this can serve as something that I can use in order to lure people into the awesomeness that is Gintama. *shot*

Under read more if you don’t want spoilers. =)

Well, despite the fact that the plot in Gintama somehow seems a bit non-existent, there’s actually a real plot. It’s more like a slice of life thing though and it’s mostly episodic, almost everything returns to the status quo so people usually forget about the plot. (lol)

*Heavy spoiler alert! This is actually the real story of Gintama behind its everyday shenanigans.. well, you can take a look at this post if you wanna know more. *

Hmmm, basically Gintama tells about the everyday life of Sakata Gintoki. Gintoki is a veteran from the Joui War. Years ago, in historical Japan, Edo was invaded by aliens called Amanto. The people, especially the samurai, were not pleased with this hence they waged war against the Amanto, which will later be known as the Joui Wars.

Gintoki was an orphan who scavenged food from dead bodies left from the war when he was found by Yoshida Shouyou, who later on became his teacher and taught him the ways of the sword. Recurring characters Takasugi Shinsuke and Katsura Kotarou were also students of the temple school where Shouyou had taught, and they’re Gintoki’s classmates in there.

Just like what happened in real history, things had become sour between the Bakufu and the Joui factions. (The Bakufu sided with the Amanto, by the way. Bakufu is the government. The Joui are the samurai rebels.) One night, Shouyou-sensei was taken away in front of a helpless and tied-up Gintoki. The school was burned at that time as well, but before Shouyou was taken away, he made Gintoki promise him to protect everyone in his stead.

Years later, Gintoki participated in the last years of the Joui War as the formidable “Shiroyasha”, someone who is well-known through his white coat and silver hair, as well as with his exceptional ability with the sword. Together with him are Katsura and Takasugi, as well as a newcomer named Sakamoto Tatsuma, among many others. While Katsura and Takasugi fought in the war for patriotism and for their ideals, Gintoki fought to fulfill his promise to Shouyou—to protect everyone. But he wasn’t able to do that, since no matter what he did, he still lost his comrades.  They were fighting a losing battle. To add salt to his wounds, Shouyou’s severed head was even sent to them during the war.

Later on, people started to flee from the war. Sakamoto fled to the skies, wanting to realize his dream while Gintoki disappeared in the middle of the war. He walked through the streets, helping people who needed help, until he was found by Otose in the grave of her husband. In exchange for the manju she’d given him, he promised to protect her in her husband’s stead, and she, in turn, gave him a place to stay.

Gintoki lived as a Yorozuya (Odd jobs) just above Otose’s place, the war has already ended then and while he lived his life peacefully, he never really got close to people until he met Shinpachi and Kagura, whom he now treats as his family. (They’re his co-workers in the Yorozuya too.)

Then through the serious arcs, we see more of the plot. Takasugi, as the leader of the Kiheitai, plans to overthrow the Bakufu in the name of revenge, especially because they took Shouyou away from them. Katsura is still the head of a Joui faction and is a wanted terrorist, but after meeting Gintoki again he’s now seeking for a more ideal way to overthrow the Bakufu. Actually, he’s reduced to an idiot with a large duck.

…The ending of the real plot will most likely involve the final war between  the Bakufu, the other factions, Takasugi’s faction, and Gintoki’s faction.
